Unforgettable Stays

Private cabins. Chef-crafted meals. Luxury and Comfort in the heart of the South Texas Brush Country.

At Las Lajas Ranch we believe that what’s good for wildlife is generally also good for cattle, and what’s good for both allows us to maintain a consistent standard of high-quality agricultural output.

Our boots-on-the-ground regenerative management plan is built on more than two centuries of experience and accounts for a wide range of factors such as rain and drought, forage growth cycles, calving seasons, and the needs of the many wildlife species we manage in addition to our cattle.

Our techniques to promote healthy, balanced ecosystems include rotational grazing, topsoil-friendly agriculture, dark-sky practices, and pollinator-friendly pest control.

Preserving the Muscovy Duck in Texas

Learn how Las Lajas Ranch is working with wildlife biologists to preserve and protect the wonderful Muscovy Duck, a locally rare bird for which the Texas populations are found only in Zapata, Starr and Hidalgo counties.

Tarantulas: Harmless Neighbors, Not Pests

Tarantulas are slow, docile hunters that help keep insect populations in balance. In the following news segment we explain that killing them is counter-productive, because they’re harmless to people and pets, and form an important part of the brush-country food web. At Las Lajas we teach guests to observe tarantulas respectfully and let them be.

Texas is home to many exceptional ranches—including some that are operated by friends we admire and whose company we’re proud to keep. In this regard Las Lajas Ranch is not the biggest or the flashiest ranch in the State, but we proudly uphold a standard of service that brings guests back, season after season.

Sometimes this means keeping things simple and true to what the land has always been about—for example, through:

  • Exceptional Personal Service. Every booking begins with a direct line to someone who knows the land, the schedule, and your group. Rather than dealing with third-party call centers or scripted replies, guests can count on real coordination from someone with boots on the ground.
  • Discretion. Although we appreciate it when guests share their stories and photos of Las Lajas Ranch with the world, the world won’t hear it from us. We maintain a code of absolute discretion regarding the identity and experiences of our guests.

Other times, our standard of service means offering specialized à la carte concierge support, including:

  • Seamless Arrival. We gladly coordinate helicopter transfers to and from San Antonio International Airport (SAT) or the Laredo International Airport (LRD), so that our guests can spend less time in transit and more time in the field.
  • Field Kit Support. Forgot gloves, batteries, or a shell belt? We keep a reserve of field essentials available to borrow or purchase.
  • Secure Firearm & Gear Storage. We can assist with coordinating advance shipping of firearms in compliance with federal law, and offer secure on-site storage for guests who wish to leave gear at Las Lajas Ranch between visits.
  • Professional Photo & Film Services. For guests who want to immortalize their experience with flair, we can provide a professional photographer or videographer to document their hunt in cinematic style, from dawn glassing to final harvest shot.

Our address is:

3443 South US-83
Zapata, Texas 78076

A ranch representative will meet you here and escort you several miles inland to base camp, so it is important that you notify our staff of your anticipated arrival time and confirm that you are still on track once you reach Zapata, if driving in from the north, or Roma, if driving in from the south.

For guests arriving by air Las Lajas Ranch has a non-instrument landing strip suitable for small personal aircraft. Coordinates are available upon request. Alternatively, we can arrange for helicopter transfers to and from the San Antonio International Airport (approximately 80 min. flight time) and the Laredo International Airport (approximately 45 min. flight time).
